Botox® is the No. 1 nonsurgical cosmetic treatment used in the United States, and for good reason. This injectable substance can effectively erase various wrinkles around your face, turning back the hands of time and rejuvenating your appearance.
Even though Botox is so popular, it’s still an injection – which can feel a little frightening for some. So, if you’re ready to dive into the world of injectable cosmetic treatments via Botox, we want you to feel prepared and empowered, whether you’re feeling nervous or not.
At Atlas Health Institute in Las Vegas, Nevada, our team led by Dana Trippi, DO, has all the experience and training needed to offer the best experience when getting aesthetic treatments such as Botox.
We explore what you need to know before getting Botox for the first time, including what it is and what the injection process is like.
Botox is the brand name for a toxin containing a purified form of the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. In large doses, this substance can cause a form of poisoning known as botulism. However, when used in small and precise doses, it’s a neuromodulator and can paralyze targeted muscles for a short amount of time.
Many of the fine lines and wrinkles around your face form from repeated facial movements. When you frown or laugh, creases form on your forehead, around your eyes, and in between your eyebrows. Over time, your skin can’t take these movements quite as well and the temporary creases give way to more permanent wrinkles.
Botox freezes the muscles that cause wrinkles, helping to erase the fine lines you already have and keep new ones from appearing. This injection works best for forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines between your eyebrows.
Before you can get Botox, you’ll first need to sit down with our team to make sure you don’t have any allergies or medical conditions that would interact poorly with the injections. We also discuss your aesthetic goals, making sure Botox is the right choice for the results you want.
On the day of your appointment, make sure to wash your face thoroughly and remove all makeup. Also, avoid taking any blood-thinning medication such as ibuprofen to reduce the risk of bruising.
Botox is a minimally invasive procedure and only takes about 10 minutes. Our team expertly places the injections in the desired area using very fine needles. You should experience little to no discomfort during the injection process, but we can apply a topical anesthetic to numb the area if you’re worried about any painful sensations.
You don’t need any downtime after getting Botox, but you should avoid rubbing or massaging the treatment area as those actions can affect your results. Within 24 hours of your injections, you should start to notice the effects of your Botox, but it may take up to a week for full results.
